Na session to begin next week |

MEMBERS of the National Assembly will have more time to
debate issues relating to the implementation of the socio-economic
development plan with government members, the Head of the office of
the National Assembly, Mr. Thongteun Xayasen, told a press
conference yesterday. “By increasing the time available for debate, we will be promoting democracy among our members as the representatives of the people”, he said Mr. Thongteun announced that the official session of the National Assembly would begin on June 18 and end on July 3. Before the start of the official session, the standing committee meeting will organize separate meeting to discuss specific issues and collect information from Assembly members. During this 3rd session, Assembly members will consider and approve the government’s report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for 2006-2007 and the directive plan for 2007-2008. The session will also hear a report from the People’s Supreme Court about its activities over the past year, as well as a report from the Prosecutor General. There will also be a report from the Standing Committee of the National Assembly bout the monitoring activities in the socio-economic development and budget plans for 2006-2007, the rural development plan and the poverty reduction programme. In addition, the session will hear a report about the inspection of the legal process of the prosecutor and the court, as well as a report about the duties of the National Assembly in 2006-2007 and its plan for 2007-2008. At the press conference, Mr. Thongteun said this session would amend two laws and consider and approve three new laws.
