Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) recently gave interview to the local media on the NA members’ responsibility of debating the draft laws, which the fourth ordinary session of the NA (sixth legislature) considers. During 2-3 days of the session, NA members paid attention to share comments and debate the draft amendment to the Law on Forest and the draft Law on Aquatics and Wildlife. They considered the protection of the national conservation forests and forests in rivers’ sources, discussed afforestation and degraded forests and emphasized their debate on concession of the deserted areas. The Law on Forest plays an important role in the implementation of the Party and Government’s policy on forest afforestation to 2020, which aims to sustain the forests, contribute to protect water resources and prevent the global warming that the world is today facing, he said. The NA members with high responsibility considered the draft Law on Aquatics and wildlife and in particular, female members shared comments increasingly. The Law on Aquatics and Wildlife connects with the protection of ecology, nature and forests. Many countries in the world acknowledge that the Lao PDR is rich in aquatics and wildlife. However, the number of them decreases compared to the past and some of them are endangered. Therefore, the Law on Aquatics and Wildlife is significant and indicates the role and responsibility of very Party and State organisation and citizen. It encourages all to protect and sustain aquatics and wildlife to be available for the next generation, he added.
