Fourth ordinary session of the National Assembly begins

The opening ceremony of the fourth ordinary session of the National Assembly (NA) (sixth legislature) is held here today, 5 December 2007, at the NA conference room, Vientiane capital. Mr Choummaly Sayasone, Secretary General of the Executive Party Central Committee, President of Lao PDR, party and government high-ranking officials, representatives of international orgainsations and diplomatic corps among National Assembly’s members attend the opening ceremony. The session will last until 26 December.

            The session will consider and adopt seven new laws: Law on Aquatic animals and Wildlife, Law on Intellectual Property, Anti-drug Law, Law on Sports, Law on Trade Unions, Law on Fire Prevention and Law on Standardization. It is scheduled to consider and adopt amendment to the Forest Law.

The session will also consider the revision of the state budgetary plan for 2007-2008 and the appointment of President of the National Audit Authority.
